Yuvraj Singh

Yuvraj Singh ( born 12 December 1981 in a Jat family from Chandigarh, India) is a cricketer from India, and the son of former Indian fast bowler and Punjabi movie star Yograj Singh. He has been a member of the Indian cricket team since 2000 (ODIs) and played his first Test match in 2003. He was the vice captain of the ODI team from late-2007 to late-2008. At the 2007 World Twenty20 he hit six sixes in an over against England’s Stuart Broad – a feat only performed three times previously in any form of senior cricket, and never previously in an international match between two Test cricket nations.

Yuvraj first came to attention when he captained the U-19 Punjab cricket team in the final of the Cooch-Behar Trophy against Bihar U-19s, in which he scored 358. He then gained selection for the U-19 World Cup in Sri Lanka in January 2000, where he was part of a team lead by Mohammed Kaif which won the tournament. Yuvraj was subsequently selected in 2000 for the first intake of the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore

Yuvraj made his One Day International debut against Kenya at Nairobi in 2000, at the ICC KnockOut Trophy. He showed his potential in his second ODI which was against the Australians where he scored a quickfire 84 off 82 balls against a quality pace attack consisting of bowlers like Glenn McGrath, Brett Lee and Jason Gillespie. However, after a lean run of form, he was dropped for the one-dayers against Australia in India in early 2001, but returned later in the year and helped India to victory in a match in Sri Lanka with an unbeaten 98.

Rattled by Yuvraj Singh’s breach of security, the Chandigarh police have issued a fresh advisory to the cricket teams of India and England, asking the players to inform in advance of their plans to venture out.

Chandigarh police SP (security) Hardeep Singh Doon said today that if any player breaks the security cordon the police will make a complaint to the BCCI. As per the fresh guidelines, the players have been advised to report to police at least three hours in advance if he wishes to go out of his place of stay which is hotel Taj in Chandigarh.

“The players of both the teams have been advised not to talk to any stranger and not to go out together,” Doon said. Besides, additional Personal Security guards (PSOs) have been attached with players to provide them security anyweher and everywhere.

Yuvraj on Thursday night had put the police in a tight spot after he went to a petrol pump owned by his father and former Cricketer Yograj Singh. Immediately a police team was rushed to spot which also escorted the player to a Sikh shrine in Sohana near Chandigarh.

Doon had written a letter with fresh guidelines directly to players and other officials of both the teams, sources said. Even as players are kept under a tight security vigil, the spectators visiting the stadium had to pass through at least four rounds of security checks before entering the stadium.

Yuvraj Singh’s brother prepares to enter Bollywood

Mumbai, (IANS) Cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s younger brother Zoravar is preparing to enter Bollywood. He is taking the best possible training to make it big in filmdom, said his father.

“Zoravar has joined Kishore Namit Kapoor’s Acting Institute just 15 days back. He will be there for a year and take training in various aspects of acting. We will launch him in a big way, but it is too early to say anything more about it,” father Yograj Singh told IANS over phone.

Yograj, who himself has acted in more than 150 Punjabi films in a career span of 30 years, says Zoravar has all the qualities to be an actor.

“He is 6.4 ft tall and is working on everything, which makes a good actor. Besides, he has inherited many of my qualities. As a father, I want him to work hard to earn success for himself. I want him to make his own identity.”

“He is 19 years old and I will make sure he fights his own battle,” said Yograj who is playing an important role in the TV series “Mohe Rang De”.

Yograj started his career as a cricketer and was part of the Indian team for a brief period. He said he wanted Zoravar to be a cricketer, but destiny seems to have planned something else for him.

“I had completely overlooked Zoravar during his growing age because I was concentrating on Yuvraj. Later, I realised that it was too late. But I’m happy with the present situation too, as my two sons will represent both my qualities - Yuvraj as player and Zoravar as actor.”

Asked about Yuvraj getting into acting, Yograj said: “I will never allow Yuvraj to get into acting until he is 40. He has to play a lot of cricket for the country. I want him to score 15,000 runs in test cricket.”
