Clarke named in Aussie Test squad

Michael Clarke

Vice-captain Michael Clarke has been named in the latest Australia Test squad despite recently returning home from New Zealand for personal reasons.

Clarke travelled home before Tuesday's third one-day international in Hamilton to be with his girlfriend who has been caught up in a media storm.

The 28-year-old has been named in a 14-man squad for the two Tests against New Zealand which start on 18 March.

But Cricket Australia are unsure whether Clarke will be available.

"I've talked to him over the last few days and we have a Test tour looming," said CA general manager Michael Brown.

"I would hope he's part of that group, but unless he's ready to go, there's no point going.

"We'll talk again over the next couple of days and our intention hopefully is to get him back in the side for the Test match."

There have been reports in the Australian media concerning Clarke's fiancee Lara Bingle, who is reportedly suing a former boyfriend after a nude photo of her was published in a magazine.

Australia captain Ricky Ponting has already made it clear that Clarke will not be rushed into returning to the side.

"Australia are really on a roll now and it will take quite something to stop them"

"He knows from all of us within the team that he has got all the support that he needs," said Ponting.

"The last thing that I said to him before he left was for him to take as much time as he needed."

The Kiwis won the first one-day international but Australia now lead the series 2-1 with two matches left to play after Brad Haddin scored a match-winning century in Hamilton.

Meanwhile, Australian National Selection Panel (NSP) chairman Andrew Hilditch expressed confidence in the Test squad, which includes fast-medium bowler Ryan Harris, who has impressed in recent months, Phillip Hughes, who struggled during the Ashes in 2009, as well as promising all-rounder Steve Smith.

"Ryan Harris, having overcome injuries at the start of the season, has played really well for Australia in the shorter formats of the game," said Hilditch.

"The NSP are confident that if Ryan gets an opportunity he has the ability to have an impact for Australia in what will be a very hard Test series against New Zealand.

"Phillip Hughes has also been in excellent form at state level and richly deserves his selection on the back of another fantastic season in the Sheffield Shield.

"Steve Smith has had an excellent Shield season, including a big century against Tasmania recently. He adds great flexibility to the squad with his exciting stroke-play, leg-spin bowling and gifted fielding."

Australia Test squad:
Ricky Ponting (captain), Michael Clarke (vice captain), Doug Bollinger, Brad Haddin, Nathan Hauritz, Ryan Harris, Phillip Hughes, Mike Hussey, Mitchell Johnson, Simon Katich, Clint McKay, Marcus North, Steven Smith, Shane Watson.

Life bans for Yousuf and Younus

Mohammad Yousuf & Younus Khan

The Pakistan Cricket Board has issued indefinite bans to former captains Mohammad Yousuf and Younus Khan.

Its inquiry into events during the tour of Australia found the pair had been involved in "infighting which resulted in bringing down the whole team".

Rana Naved-ul-Hasan and Shoaib Malik each face one-year bans and big fines.

Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal and Umar Akmal also face heavy fines while their conduct will be strictly monitored during a six-month probationary period.

On Wednesday, the PCB implemented the recommendations of an inquiry committee formed to evaluate Pakistan's dismal performance against Australia during the winter.

Pakistan must now try to defend their ICC World Twenty20 crown in the Caribbean next month with severely depleted resources, before facing what could be a chastening tour of England.

But the PCB was unrepentant, saying: "This will go a long way to arrest the continuing decline of Pakistan cricket and improve the state of cricket in Pakistan."

Nasdaq

On 10 March 2000, the Nasdaq index of leading technology shares spiked, bursting the Dotcom bubble.

"At the time, I thought 'there's got to be a way of making money here', but off course I was wrong'"

Mark Simon, chief executive, The Chemistry Club

2001: Money targets top techs

The decade that has passed since has brought a new realism to the internet economy.

The Nasdaq has failed to recover and currently trades at less than half its peak value on 10 March 2000 as investors are once again looking for real returns and for fundamental underlying value.

But technology is playing a much greater role in most people's lives than it did when the bubble burst, so clearly many tech firms are thriving.

Some have even grown sufficiently to join blue-chip indexes instead, so the Nasdaq is perhaps no longer the best barometer of the health of what was once deemed the "new economy".

What they said then

"It may ease off here and there, we may find the Nasdaq being a little overvalued at some point, but in general it's the way of the future"

Analyst comment, 10 March 2000

Dotcom boom: What they said at the time

1990s Nasdaq board

These days, nobody uses the term.

Indeed, even on 10 March 2000 one analyst said: "A lot of people are tired of hearing about the new economy versus the old economy".

At the time, the Nasdaq had risen 24% since the end of 1999 while the Dow Jones index of leading industrial shares had fallen 13%.

And the analyst, who was with Prudential Securities, was convinced the Nasdaq would smash through the 6,000-level within 12 to 18 months.

"If you're an astute observer, your portfolio will reflect what's new and exciting and dynamic," he said at the time, insisting that "a lot of those are the companies that are in the Nasdaq".

Another analyst, from the since collapsed Lehman Brothers, was equally eager to justify the Nasdaq's strength.

"It may ease off here and there, we may find the Nasdaq being a little overvalued at some point, but in general it's the way of the future," he said on 10 March 2000.

Greed and fear

Oh, how wrong he was.

And how we all laugh as we look back at a time when the talk was more important than the walk, and when scruffy entrepreneurs were courted by greedy venture capitalists (VCs), their ties hidden in their pockets.

"I remember walking into a First Tuesday event at Lords Cricket Ground, and there were thousands of people there creating a very special energy," recalls Mark Simon, founder of The Chemistry Club, which at the time brought together VCs with budding entrepreneurs.

"At the time, I thought 'there's got to be a way of making money here', but off course I was wrong'."

Poor infrastructure

But it is easy to be wise after the event.

And it is equally easy to forget that in fact there were plenty of good ideas around at the time.

"A lot of the business plans were deeply flawed," acknowledges Mr Simon.

"But a lot of the ideas that were around at the time would have worked had there been broadband."

Tendulkar backs MS Dhoni’s team for T20 title.

Sachin Tendulkar the record-breaking batsman, who does not play in Twenty20 internationals said MS Dhoni's team were the world's best in the most explosive form of the game and believes India will retain the Twenty20 World Cup next month. India is the most balanced side in the world and there is no doubt we can defend the title.

We have very good cricketers in our side and we have proved that this combination is the deadliest.

Dhoni led a young Indian team to a surprise success in South Africa two years ago to ensure the game's shortest format gained instant popularity in cricket's commercial hub.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Dhoni heads a young, vibrant bunch to the second edition in England starting on June 5. India are in Group A with Bangladesh and Ireland.

The best part is that our team can take any amount of pressure and still perform, our players actually thrive on pressure. So I would like to put my money on India.

Master added our seam attack has a lot of variety and that would come handy in such conditions. On our day, we can demolish any batting side.

We come as a package and this package is the best in business at the moment. This package has everything which is necessary to make us world champions once again...

Let's hope our master 's dream comes true and MS Dhoni brings back the

Master meets his boyhood hero at Wimbledon 2009

Our master, Sachin Tendulkar was a guest in the Royal Box yesterday at Wimbledon 2009 , London.

No doubt he would have appreciated and enjoyed the high voltage drama of the men’s final between Roger federer and Andy roddick, but Sachin Tendulkar may have also been starstruck before the match began. His boyhood hero was legendary star John McEnroe, and ‘Supermac’ was out on court before the players arrived, teeing up the match for the BBC television audience.

As a youngster, Tendulkar would copy McEnroe’s style, wearing wristbands and headbands, and played plenty of tennis until cricket began to dominate his life in the mid-1980s.

Sachin Tendulkar Milestones

There is no doubt that Sachin Tendulkar arguably the best batsman this world has ever seen.

Master batsman made his intention clear in an interview to the Wisden Cricketer ,
he has two dreams left to realize now ;

  • To get to 15,000 test runs - I am not pleased yet with what I have done. Sunil Gavaskar has told me that I have to get to 15,000 runs. He said he would be angry with me and would come and catch me if I didn’t. I admire him so much and to score that many would be a terrific achievement.
  • To win a 2011 World Cup for India.
  • This also came as relief for master fans that he may retire from cricket soon.Who want him to continue for long.

So one shouldn’t write off our master blaster now.

Because Sachin has single-handedly carried his team across the finish line many times. Anyone who has watched him during the Sharjah Cup in ’98, knows that he can really perform miracles in cricket.

SO I AM WAITING TO SEE MASTER"S DREAM COME TRUE like all CRICKET LOVERS OVER THE WORLD >>>>>HOPE EVERYBODY IS WITH ME......

I am just waiting for triangular series to start where Sachin will be seen with an Adidas bat.

Indian Captain MSD on Sachin Tendulkar’s Brilliant knock

Posted by admin March 9, 2010 Leave a Review

India captain MS Dhoni took the positives from the heart-breaking 3-run loss and said without masters brilliant 175 knock( 141-ball), which was studded with 19 fours and four sixes. It would not have been possible to come so close to the massive 351 run mark set by Australia.

Sachin Tendulkar played very well and he was one man who brought us close to a win. But even after he left we did not lose hopes till the end," said Dhoni.

Dhoni said though this was a special innings from the champion batsman, his personal favorite was the Desert Storm in Sharjah against Australia in April 1998.

"It was a pleasure to see him batting so well. All his centuries have been special and this too. But I am still a big fan of his desert storm (innings)," he said.

"We lost the mental aspect and not the cricketing part of the match. Chasing 350 was always going to be difficult even on this wicket which played very well," he said after India lost a heart-stopper to Australia to give the visitors a 2-3 lead in the seven-match series.

From now on "Every game is a pressure game. There will always be pressure," he said.

Sachin has played for 20 odd years and I think, it's wonderful task by a man who has achieved so much. I congratulate him,South Africa cricketer Herchelle Gibbs.

It's a great achievement. Anyone playing for 21 years is not an easy job, we are proud of him,
    said India all-rounder Rohit Sharma.

He has achieved several records. I hope that he reached 20,000-run mark. Whatever he has achieved, it is nearly impossible to achieve for anyone else. I just wish that he keeps ongoing and gets more and more runs for India, Wasim Jaffer

Sachin’s dismissal the turning point: Ponting

Sachin Tendulkar played a mighty innings. It was a knock which could have taken the game away from us.

Definitely, when Sachin was batting we thought the game was slipping away.

That is why his dismissal was the turning point in our victory today and it was one of the best knocks I've seen from Sachin said Australian captain Ricky Ponting after his team won the fifth one-dayer here on Thursday.
